I grew up on a farm in the East side of Hamilton. The oldest of 8 children. I always had to be second mom and help take care of the others and was supposed to set a good example but sometimes we were all just kids. We picked cotten, did chores and went to school at Sugar Bend. When we had spare time, we had full use of Buttahatcee River. A swiming hole in walking distance. And if we had longer to play, we went exploring. The bluffs we climbed, the chances we took! So much fun! If I knew my kids were climbing the bluffs we climbed, I would have had a heart attack. Life was lots of hard work back then but good life lessons were learned as well. Hard work teaches children what they need in the future. Too many today don't know how to survive. We have all stayed fairly close in our relationship with each other and would fight you for any one of us. We seldom get mad but when we do, we usually don't say anything and let it slide because we mean that much to each other. I've lost three siblings, each very precious to me. My brothers and sisters all have their own special place in my heart in diffrent ways.
